In brief

Luciano Civettini builds an autobiographical practice in which personal memory overlaps with art history. Canvases, paper, collage and resin-sealed books behave as narrative environments rather than isolated surfaces.

His dreamlike figuration never escapes reality. Childhood, mountains, absence and everyday episodes enter the work through alter egos, flowers, animals, words and recovered fragments.

An intimate art history

Civettini returns to Fragonard, Monet, Renoir, Degas and Berthe Morisot by looking at the lives around their studios, friendships and families. He does not imitate their styles; he uses biography and colour as emotional access points.

In Déjà vu, Impressionism becomes a possible memory, reworked through collage, marks and interruptions that belong fully to the present.

Folding, fragmenting, assembling

Paper, old canvas, writing and heterogeneous materials create layers that behave like memory: they reappear without a linear order and change meaning when placed beside one another.

Acrylic, watercolour, oil stick, collage and resin are chosen for what an idea requires. Technique remains a means rather than a display of skill.

Blur: the book becomes an object

In the Blur series, books are closed, painted and sealed with resin. Ordinary reading becomes impossible, yet the volume gains a new presence as an opaque archive of protected memory.

Words also enter paintings to activate recollection or interrupt the image. They shift the picture instead of explaining it.

A practice to read over time

Civettini has exhibited in Italy and abroad since the 1990s. Painting, installation and book-objects reveal a consistent return to mountain landscapes, literature, memory and art history.

For a collector, continuity is the useful entry point: year, support, provenance and the relationship between an individual work and its wider cycle should all be verified.
