On Friday 9 October 2026 at 7:30 pm, Punk Aristocracy · 10 years, a photography exhibition by Massimo Scognamiglio, opens at BlackShedBar in Cosenza. The event marks ten years since the project began in 2016 and coincides with punk’s fiftieth anniversary.
The exhibition brings a precise question back into the present: what happens to rebellion when fashion, luxury and communication absorb it, turn it into style and circulate it again as a product?
From 2016 to 2026
The first exhibition, organised at Takeawaygallery in Rome in 2016, brought together thirty black-and-white and colour photographs. The project examined punk signs moving from the street to the catwalk and mass visual culture, without reducing them to musical reconstruction or nostalgia.
Ten years later, the images return in Cosenza. Meanwhile, the distance between dissent and trend has shortened further: a gesture can be photographed, shared, copied and sold almost as soon as it appears. This friction keeps the work current.
A beauty that asks for no consent
In the manifesto accompanying the exhibition, Scognamiglio imagines his characters trapped in the game of style and fashion. They sit at power’s table, learn its gestures and finally overturn it. Against rebellion reduced to surface, the project proposes an absolute, uncomfortable and uncompromising beauty.
The title deliberately joins two terms in tension. “Punk” suggests rupture and spontaneous appropriation; “Aristocracy” introduces ritual, power and image construction. Photography becomes the place where the two systems contaminate one another without reaching a resolution.
